"And I got really good results in my bakes when I started using Cages throughout this tutorial." I hope I am not going to sound like a jerk here, but the first step for you to determine whether or not they are "old news" would be for you to investigate and understand why you suddenly got good results out of using them. And…
Allow people to opt out of getting their work aggregated, preferentially without requiring them to create an account, implement a form to request takedowns of specific works that may get caught up by your crawler, and if you really need an account for a blanket-style block (eg don't ever aggregate works by user account X…
in xnormal open the 3d viewer, and check off cage and give it a slight extrusion, than save that out as sbm. should help a bit, using a basic cage like that over the ray distance. also if your going to use raydistance, in the tools tab there is a ray distance calculator that can get you some decent starting values.
Baking, by definition, is from a high to a low ;) you create the detail using modeling methods like sub-d and just 'float' them off the surface of the high poly. The projection rays will capture that detail as it casts the rays perpendicular to the surface normals. But what I'm saying is if the software you're using is a…
Get some mental ray or Vray under your belt. Master Zap does a great course on FXPHD which I can personally recommend. It covers all the basic information you need for doing integration work in mental ray and alot of core technical knowledge. (I think haiddasalami, was in my class, or was that just math?)
Maya software renderer to bake light info into a texture: Click on your mat. in the hypershade>edit>convert to file texture Mental ray for Maya: Once in render mode>lighting/Shading>Batch Bake Mental Ray and you can bake to either verts or texture. Jeffro has a tut ( for baking to texture ) :…
renderhjs, back in 2005 our pipeline engineer wrote a ambient occlusion baking tool that supported multiple transparencies on top of each other and I've been wishing mental ray could do this since then. r_fletch_r, I posted on the mental ray forum and the moderator did not mention anything about the mia material. Care to…
Hmm, the pictures are not showing up, it seems like you're not allowed to link them from that host. If you're talking about Maya and the difference between High Quality display of normal maps and the renderer, you have to use Mental Ray to render, and make sure the "Use Maya Derivatives" checkbox is enabled in the Mental…
I did. Rob now reports to Ray instead of directly to Frank. This is a promotion for Dr Ray. All of us at Mythic are happy to receive whatever help Bioware will offer and do whatever we can in return because we have great respect and admiration for Bioware. That's the extent of it right now because the deal just happened…
So, I've never baked anything in Max before. I've baked in Xnormal and Maya, but I thought I'd try branching out a bit since most of my modeling is done in Max anyways (may as well just use one software package if I can). Since I'm completely new at render to texture in Max, I picked up 3dmotive's tileable floor in UDK…
