That's sweet, man. There was an older thread where Bryan Cavett made one similar to this based on Modo's element action center. I have it set to a quad where I can select a subobject, hit "ActionCenter On" and it aligns the pivot to the selected suboject. Then I can go back to my quad and hit "ActionCenter Off" and it goes… -

To duplicate a part of a mesh you can select the faces the Mesh Menu > Extract. Another option is to select the faces then from the Edit Mesh Menu> Duplicate Face. With this kind of structure you would probably put a seam on every edge that is between two perpendicular elements (meaning that there's a 90 degrees angle between two faces that share this edge). I'm not a huge Blender user, but what would you typically do is select the edge -> Mark Seam -> Repeat, and after you're done… -

Select all the objects, to got the Utilities tab -> More... -> Polygon Counter. It'll count triangles of any object you have selected. If you're making models for game engines, you *need* to care about how many polygons they're using. Especially older engines like HL1. I believe there's actually a vertex limit on segments…
