IIRC someone made a PLY importer for Max. Might not work with Max's point cloud rendering system though? Search those formats on Scriptspot, and on Maxplugins . Max definitely supports OBJ out of the box.

Thanks Dave. Is there a polycount IRC channel where n00b questions can be asked? I actually have to turn it off (uncheck). Also, having 2-sided or not makes no difference in the viewport when backface cull is unchecked - is it only for rendering?.

I've gotten a 900 lb DL with a 1.2 meg upload. This was while I was uploading 2 megabytes a second on IRC and downloading something else at about 500. My fiberoptics could handle more but finding all these things to DL is tough
