Yeah, I guess we can always pick a prop from the scene, then if we're done pick an other one, etc., and build on that and finally have a full scene even if we didn't intend to do that at first. Or pick the prop concept for something else!
That seems fine. It all depends on the intended use. If this is for a modern PC game, and is one of many props within a house, then it's ok. If it's a hero prop, it's probably not enough detail. If it's for a mobile game, it's too much detail. Etc. The large polygons are worrisome. Triangulate and see what happens to the…
I see... So is it probably a good idea to figure out what to do during the school years? BTW, I noticed that Environmental Artist and Prop Artist are lumped up together in the wiki. Does that mean Character Artist and Prop Artist are totally separated job title?
@ElectricEchoes Thanks for the heads up, that helped! So when you guys make individual props for your environment, do you have separate project files for each prop or do you just make them all (hp/lp/bakes) in one project scene?
I like keeping it more open ended rather than limiting. Doing a prop or vehicle portion on the next challenge would be great. Some Artists don't always have time for full enviros. So doing a really detailed prop or vehicle might be a bit easier.
Okey so i have looked in the game and if anyone is curious its something like this. Environment textures are about 256x256 and down some 512x512. Props textures, for big props 512x512 for smaller usually 256x256 and down. Characters usually 256x256 or 256x512. And weapons about 256x256.
rick beat me to it =P yeah, I think its mostly 64/128 tiling textures with a combination of vertex coloring and alpha maps for lighting. not really sure what psx supported... only things with non-tiling textures are props, but it really depends on the prop too.
Still working on this.. slowly. Started on a character to put in the scene, still pretty rough. Need to add plants and some props, though I'm not sure what sort of props to add so I'm open to suggestions. Going to add some torches to the pillars too, I think.
Hey everyone. I have an assessment due in just a few days and I'm having problems with the 3ds max at the campus (i use 2010) I played around with the snaps options then when i was done, i unticked all the snaps but when i move the verts on a face they'll be confined to that face, i can only move them along the plane. I…
