Welcome! :D One thing that is always true though, is that if you think you suck at something - you can only get better by doing it! My hand-drawing skills were a bit lacking a month ago, but since then I've worked on a small drawing a day and I'd like to think that I can produce something fairly good now. My main point is…
"3d artists don't need to learn to draw or paint" I mean TECHNICALLY this one is true, but when people say it they mean 3d artists don't need art fundamentals and that's fucking bullshit. I mean if you really want to go the time consuming route and master color theory and anatomy and gesture through incredibly elaborate…
UVs seam quite sloppy, especially the barrel area. All those lines that are straight in 3d should be straight in 2d as well. When you have a bunch of slightly angled edges in your uv layout, it won't hold detail nearly as well. It only takes one pixels to draw a straight line, however, you need 2 at minimum to draw an…
Care to elaborate? works just fine for me? You do have to realize, just like with anything else, batching does have overhead...and if your just batching 500 tiny things together....its not really going to benefit you that much. Are you using pixel lights at all? Your going to get more than one draw call for any object…
Wow, how ironic. I've recently had the idea of making myself a small sketchbook i could keep in my pocket so I could immediately start drawing my ideas if I'm not at home or if I'm on the go. I wanted to create a black papered sketchbook that I could draw in with a silver pen, but I've been lost at how to go about creating…
I guess it comes down to priorities, it's performance vs memory usage. 3 materials will be be a multiplier for draw calls, but you may lose flexibility with one texture map. Maybe you could do it in between, a 1024*2048 and a 1024^2 is the same memory-wise as 3 1024s, and you will have 2x draw call instead of 3x. Instead…
One thing I have to note is I seem to draw better during the day than night. I can be in max all night. But to really get some good skecthing in, I need access to daylight. I wonder if this all has something to do with light? Meaning since monitors shed light, we can work on them during times when it is dark. (Also they…
Thanks for the feedback the eyebrows where kinda added for humor but i will draw him up again and tone them down. i pictured this guy as always being a little angry so that might be why the neutral ended up looking like that, i will try tweaking it. it actually felt wierd to draw him smiling. my buddy sean is gonna model…
Elaborating on used wacom -> wacom bamboo fun tablets are pretty close to the old intuos 2s (3s too?) in specs, if you can find a used one of those you probably wont spend much more than 100 and it will last you. Draw as much as you can, also do art. Look at art school. traditional art school. If you already do 3d for fun,…
Fantastic idea, thanks Labyrinth Been following the thread and just had a shot at the process - might be cool to update the 1st post in the thread with latest working links and settings (so long as we know what they are - seems a few folks are having different results)? I'm having no joy on latest viewer - used export…
