Lego is close, but what I was originally modelling was a Servbot. The arm intersecting the head is kind of an unfortunate reality of the design. This is the pose I was going for. No real way to pull that off without cheating.
Read in the local paper they also bought out some company that makes media / game stuff for airplanes, so expect to see something like Pogo and The Sims on your next flight.
A nice hardcover copy of Ashley Wood's World War Robot, a 6 Gal. Air Compressor, some movies, and bulk packs of assorted lego technic parts. Fun stuff this year.
Spending hundreds of hours making digital lego blocks or playdo people is by definition an obsessive act. The question of 'are artists obsessive by nature?' might be a little bit redundant :) But hey, Merry Christmas!

Don't make the entire building out of one mesh and one texture. Use tiling textures to make wallpieces and roof blocks and then combine them in-engine like legos. Sort of like this:
