it doesnt necessarily take years but it might, just compare your work to a company you want to work at. If you cant achieve that right now then just keep going until you can. It all depends on the kind of work you want to do as well, for example maybe you have great painting and drawing skills and want to work on hand… -

I mostly use 3ds max uvs tools and Headus Uv layout. Headus is great to work with symmetrical stuff, especially if you want some to be symmetrical, like the arms, but that you want the whole head.
