OMG its Roland :D I imagined him a lot older but still see him in there :) I'm a massive DT fan so got giddy when I saw this :D I have built a DT level in UDK but would love for there to a be a full game one day! Amazing.
Here a link that can be very useful for you I think :D Still by EarthQuake ! http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107196 Your edges are too narrow. The bake almost do nothing on them , you should widen them and you'll have a nice bake for the edges :D
Are you familiar with sub-d modeling? It seems that you have not practiced it here and the edges as a result don't have any smoothness to them. If you want to pursue hard surface modeling you'll need to learn sub-d modeling as it's more or less the standard for how weapons are made currently.
Earthquake, I guess I never understood the difference between MeshSmooth and TurboSmooth. I see your using MeshSmooth there, but would TurboSmooth hurt at all? I think Maya just calls it Sub-D right? I've never used it before. Sub-D in Max just tesselates it.
Bought the two tutorials a little while ago and have to say i learned a few new tricks in my work-flow. Made this practice prop using the Sub-D tutorial as a base, I recommend the tutorials to any Artist that want to brush up on there sub-D skill-set:
i have a feeling that the anticipation for the awesome that is to follow will fill this thread with utterly pointless and (homo)erotic comments and images before anyone posted the slightest bit of progress :D . and it shall be epic!! really looking forward to it! shotun's image could've totally been a ref image from…
This creatures must be the weakest of the D&D universe! Your concept is a lot more stylized and simple. I like it but try to make it bigger and make some shadeing in it. If you want to make it like the original, you should put this big folds in it and and make the hands and foots more flat and longer.
this is what i wanted to hear =D I will link the work back to the artist, they deserve it :D . If you look it from a profitable point of view they can get a job if someone looks at my portfolio and notices the link back to him. So i think it's a win, win situation.
