If you have X amount of documents open you will need to turn snapping on/off on each one. It is not global. And you sure it's not the document bounds that's snapping? It will snap to objects in all layers.
The sun rays from above and the steam from below is a nice touch. Especially since the high amount of rust makes sense with the constant heat and water flowing over it. good work

In college I did a good amount of this. I would reccommend looking at a local community college and or an art center. It's really valuable to have someone teaching you that has a lot of experience with it.
jzero: somafm is where it's at. I don't remember if they have the 48K AAC stream for the Secret Agent feed, but if they do, you should check it out. It lowers the amount of bandwidth that the stream is using.
based on research 3 or fewer years of experience it should go about 26k. so if you've had a couple of games under your belt don't take anything under this amount.
Here is my steam engine that i am working on currently. I am still playing around with texture colours, and trying to get the dirt/rust amounts correct. I also attached one of my main pieces of reference.
Started to work on a floating island concept with the advice of a friend, I'm going to try and finish this with the least amount of assets as possible. I have the heightmap and the masks for now. I should be able to reuse some of the vegetation from previous projects.
