Well I guess roof scratches can be possible when a driver goes GTA style and starts to roll over trash cans or mail boxes, etc. I really appreciate your critique, I dont really understand what KazeoHin is sayin, were you meaning a different hdr or something like that?
Dwarven brewery located in the middle of the town so all the stuff is packed on the roof. Lots of placeholder blockin stuff, missing quick metal plating of main building and brickwork on smaller building. Workers have a little terrace to taste some of the beer they brew. Door leading to nowhere will be connected to another…
It depends on the game, it looks like this is designed with Flight Sims in mind. Pre-generated art looks fugly, the only thing I would use this for is background noise outside of the playable area or use it to generate roof tops for a cinematic. I don't see this working for any kind of FPS game, it MIGHT work in a RTS.
There are some scale issues, particularly the barrel, but also the big tank and the leaded windows could be looked at too. I would also try to stagger the roof shingles, and since you have spent so much geometry on them you might as well have them overlap the wooden beams on the end to add to the silhouette.
Been looking for references, trying to to find medium sized buildings with the flat roofs and the stair entrance to the top. I want quite dodgy looking buildings with dark alleys, like something you would see out of batman. Been looking on Google maps but cant find what I want so far.
Cool idea, thanks!:) I'll see how I can run with an overgrown look with the scene. Those layered thatched roofs are definitely lifelike, can't tell yet if they're modeled/textured with tiling strips yet or not. The damage running down the middle tells me it's unique. I'll take a look at more references.
Just remember to try and get that rounded shape to the roof. Right now it's looking very sharp angled and a lot more modern in its construction that it should. Also, my ability to recognize commonly used stuff from CGTextures never ceases to amaze... myself.…
The roof tiles seem to be off a little. It might be just the lighting. I was dealing with that type of tiles before Here, Maybe seeing some of the troubles I was having may help. Love the soda machine... I don't know what it is about soda machines in video games that are so awesome. What are you rendering this in?
painted edges (bricks, roof tiles) are too thin and it causes two problems: - textures look really flat. - when scaled, they start look all jaggy and pixelated. also, you might want to get rid of pure black color in your textures. its unnatural, and shouldn't be used on hand-painted stuff.
I have to agree with Joe about the rust. Keep in mind that rust tends to spread from an initial flaw, often following bends or curves. The edges of wheel wells are often among the first places to rust, along with the roof. The oxidation is also a bit too complete - it should be larger than the rusted areas, but not…
