1) Happens to me too, it's a bug, I just select and deselect and it disappears. 2) I Don't use lasso select, but sometimes I have similar selection issues where it is selecting the backface components instead, backface culling usually helps that.
Yeah thats really annoying, but its easy to fix and theres no script needed. By default 'Q' is assigned to Smart Select which cycles through the selection modes. Go to Customize User Interface and switch 'Q' from Smart Select to Select Object.
osman.... if you're in the UV editor, you can (RMB>Face) select the face , which will highlight only that face... then (RMB>UV) marquee select that face and it will convert the face to a UV selection, and you can freely move that (face) selection in uv space
Now try this bug: Wireframe on shaded : on Camera selection : on select object, right click and change to either vertex or edge, and try to select. I have tried on ati and nvidia card, and it's the same, I cant get a proper selection. Reported, but no response.
Is there a way to drag and select all the uv shells instead of selecting one point from the shell? When selecting all the points it scales weird. It would be nice if you could scale all of them really quickly from a drag select all
Read the help file. Select edges in viewport or uveditor (when in uvunwrap mode) and then right click in uv window and select 'break' this splits the uv shell at this edge selection. isnt that going to select All the meshes in my scene that use the materials? I just want to have one mesh selected and be able to quickly select faces by material. Thats why i was going the long route. I dont want to have to select a lot other objects and deselct their faces. Just the one i have selected.

Set the extrude tool's curve settings to "selected", and it should work as expected. "Edit>Save settings" in the extrude tool's window should save the option going forward.
Anyone knows if there's a maxscript out there that will select a ring that's the shortest distance between two edges? I tried writing it myself, but it's going over my head. Can't figure out how to select the parallel edge of an edge selection.
