You won't lose that purdy edge if you're wanting to bake normals. Check the lip below the slide release here, it's a floater on the LP but modeled in on the HP.
SimonT those are the decal planes. That is why they are overlaying geometry in place of the stripes. They are decals... Bungie is famous for using floaters like this for the nice crisp text and stripes.

Tiling textures for most of the building, and it looks like a blend layer on the roof for the moss. Decals, or floaters, are probably the easiest way to do the corner pieces.

YO THIS IS HOTTT you may want to disable shadow casting on the floaters if you can. those shadows are kinda killing the perception that it's a solid piece in the renders.
