its this one - http://www.seraph3d.com/commontools.htm its part of my toolbox as well. the 'copy/paste' between scenes functionality is something i pretty much use x times every day. so much better than merging imho. cheers, Rom snowblindstudios.com
Try working on a different model. If max doesn't crash then it's the problem with that file. You can create a new max file and merge the model into the new max file. If max does crash on your other model files also then, maybe re-installing should solve the issue.
Tadao215: As long as it's a texture map you can merely right click on the file in the generic browser and click export (from which you can select the file type of TGA, etc). EDIT: P.S. you can also do this with exporting meshes to OBJ format.
Combining normalmaps: Open one of them. Copy the other one into a layer above the first and set it to overlay. Use Levels and set the blue channel output for that layer from 0-255 to 0-127. Merge down. Use the NVidia normalmap tools with "normalize only".
On page 2, someone asked how to bake alpha information. I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to bake it into the diffuse layer. I don't know if there's a way to do it. Would I need to do the whole thing of baking the alpha layer separate and merging it with the diffuse texture in photoshop, or is there another way in…
I have no idea why that collapse is so crooked. If you need to retain the straight lines, you'll need to select your pairs and do "merge edges to center" instead. Or you can use Transform Component to scale all of your pairs down so collapse can't stray too far.
The closer the edgeloops, the tighter the edge. The problems occur when the edges that aren't on the extrude, but on the flat surface, are close together and cause pinching like on your screenshot. You can space the edges on the flat area out more to get rid of the pinching, but have the edges merge closer near the start…
Ah, yes. A couple things: The most useful aspects of the Material Center have been merged into the Material List, so materialCenter.mel is obsolete. Additionally, there have been updates! Check out a few posts up for the latest version (or click here http://www.polycount.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1843643&postcount=44)
The max files are all game levels, lots of intances, groups, layers etc, so exporting wouldnt help really. I managed to merge some of the assets that i currently need into a new file without getting the bug. I just continue doing it like that and hope i dont get it again.
I will be in for the Prop-challenge this month. It's a while ago since my last weapon. :) I decided not to go strict for one version of the axe but to merge few details from axye 1,2 and 3 into one weapon. So far I did the modelling and started with the textures: 2048x2048 Diffuse only 920 Verts
