You are most likely running out of video ram. Toolbag's baker is GPU-accelerated and all mesh data must fit on the GPU. Here is some advice to stay within the limits of your GPU's video memory: 1. Close any 3D or 2D applications or any other VRAM-hungry applications that you may have open. Web browsers with many tabs open…

I can't speak for everyone, but the sub-D stage is the mid-point. I use that mesh to generate the base high poly, and LOD0 by removing unnecessary verts/edges. Unreal generates usable LODs 99% of the time.
Thanks everyone for your encouragement. PogoP - I mainly used the Standard, Clay and hPolish brushes, I find they are good for most things. SHEPEIRO - Thanks a lot for the comments. And also for those two images. I love the second one and will push the colour in my trees. I had much more varied colour in them before but…
Despite the default icon, most of us don't bite - really! The load times seemed slow for me as well, so you might want to try it on another system - a friend's computer, or a library. I'm a little curious about some of your design decisions for the pirate's aircraft. Tail-draggers (more properly known as "conventional…
Something else I wanted to share on the offchance it was helpful to anyone looking, is what I'm using for a sketchbook. I encountered a problem last year where the sketchbooks I was buying from a local art store were removed from stock. All of my sketching is done with a regular mechanical pencil, and paper with a lot of…
I'd move your demo reel to a seperate sections and have a very simple front page. Take Clinton Crumplers site for example: http://www.clintoncrumpler.com/ As soon as they open your website they should be able to see all your work and who you are. Personally I wouldn't have a breakdowns page and would just have your 2-3…
First of all, thanks for all the advise so far. I really appreciate that you took the time to look at my work :D What I changed so far: - updated medieval camp environment with higher es screenshot - tweaked the lighting of the camp a bit to try and make it less flat - removed the 2d section (even though it was a hard…
Ahh yep, try to use edit poly instead of edit mesh whenever possible. Edit mesh is a hold over for legacy code and the default for many modifiers and functions. 1) There are a few ways to get rid of edges: - Click on an edge and hit ring, hit collapse. Works great for getting rid of rings. But destroys the edges. If you…
