      Dan is right on the money. Drawing is an excellent start. Drawing is not just the process of learning to make strokes, it is also the process of learning to see. Be persistent. There is no magic bullet.

      Draw some curves over the result in order to split it up a bit, then alt+draw curves over the segments you want to remove.
