Nope, it ended up being Initial FG Point Density. Had to turn it up to about .8 for the "seam" to disappear.

After baking a 16 bits one, you should convert it back to 8 bits so the banding gets dithered.

but if i pick lets say size 16 in UE4 and the model snaps only in size 8 in Maya, wouldnt that be an issue?

Yeah, start from an 8-sided Cylinder. And make sure the radius is in whole units, so the diameter is on your grid.

Why are you using 3ds max 7? A program from 2004 probably won't be very compatible with windows 8.
