conditionals are 'expensive' in the sense that they aren't hard branching code, they execute all code regardless of whether or not a conditional is matched. if the logic going into a conditional is relatively effective, they are generally okay. math operations are 'cheap' on current gen hardware. texture fetches are not.
Here's a thought. Why cant they return to the original design? With like 100 poly characters and triangle tits etc but with next gen physics, lighting, etc. Like minecraft but more "dynamic".... I'd love it! Retro is the new future tbh...
http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/thief/news/ps4_thief_capped_at_30fps_producer_suggests_60fps_not_a_necessity.html Please god, don't tell me its capped at 30FPS on PC, please. Also I gotta laugh that a "next gen" console have to sacrifice FPS to get better physics.
polycount wiki Cg tuts plus eat3d 3d motive next gen hard surface 3d palace Experiment with the tools yourself once your fairly comfortable with the basics. Hope this helps get you started, best of luck.
Nothing compares to working on a nice IPS 1440p display. Awesome for gaming as well. And yeah I can max out every current gen game I've tried with my 970, so I wouldn't worry about performance.
The rock itself is looking really nice; the moss (?) on the bottom less so. What tri count is "too high" obviously depends on platform and game type, but for a first/third person game on a current gen console that's easily low enough.
No, low/mid poly modeling will not be a thing of the past for a long time to come. Bear in mind that current gen games will still for some time to come be made by studios who consider it their bread and butter, and dont forget the handheld market either.
nice body of work, I might round it out with some more last gen stuff. the feathers look really inefficient, you could get away with a much smaller alpha and 3 or 4 unique feathers. good presentation.
Your work is improving vastly from the stuff on your webpage! Great job. I would suggest using a next gen engine for showing off your work instead of max. It is severely handicapping your final art piece.
What do you mean you don't have time to fix them? If you post those to your site like they currently are, most next gen leads will realize that you don't know how to work with normal maps.
