I'm giving this month's Community Noob Challenge a bash. Hopefully I can get it done by the end of the month. Until then, most of the updates here are going to be crossposts from the main thread, might still be a few others if I get ambitious. First is my progress on the blockout.
lovely concept you have there. as for the blockout mesh, the center of gravity looks slightly off to the front of the character. right now the COG seems to be pointing to the toes but it might look more balanced if it is pointing to the heels. to do that you can move her shoulders and head slightly back.
I have the base colors on him now. Though I was advised to first put him in a lit blockout before painting in the textures (going for the hand painted look via the concept), so I might be texturing him after I get him posed with the egg.
Nice blockout for the armor :) the only thing that I don't get is that short sword on his back ^^' I'd see better a big ass sword or if you wanna keep it that way maybe two would be better. A single sword that size doesn't fit well in that position imo.
Just a rough blockout of the suit, short sleeved because i want to do arm hair. No longer being the embodiment of hope is the reason for the symbol being torn out, plus another reason to make some chest hair lol...and practice torn material i guess
Like the idea, one of those references I did a portfolio piece of (cartoony sewer). I am also getting ready to start a project that is somewhat similar to yours in a small room with water sort of way. Good luck! Blockout looks pretty good so far.
Progress update 4: This week I continue to create high poly model then bake them into low poly model by Substance. Below are some of the props I made. I also spend some time on tweaking the tileable texture and my blockout.
Hey guys and girls! I'm sharing this free resource that you can find over Oleg Ushenok's Gumroad: https://gumroad.com/olegushenok#uMSoy Pretty much medium-poly, but can be good for general blockouts :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLJWRPnfadA
A small update. I reworked my blockout and started high polying. I am not really satisfied, this piece is very smooth and wavy, maybe not the best piece for a newbie like me but I will do my very best :) Crits or Hints (!!) wanted
I always go: placeholder/blockout highpoly lowpoly texture I've seen people do a texture first style workflow. However it doesn't always give the best result in my opinion since you can't get as precise normalmapping on the models.
