I don't have a long run solution, but this trick might be helpful : Open the UPK first (-> Fully Load), with an empty level, then open your map. This will force the UDK to load your materials correctly. -

My links opens with power point. If you don't have it, i think there are software to read ppt without office. I've got "power point viewer" in mind. don't know if it opens xml. -

Yes, a patch to fix the 3d model in the game is precisely what I hope can be done. It is a single vehicle (the AEF M15 AA Halftrack) which needs to be corrected. @Ysalex I know the actual ellie model is around 29k triangles from what i've seen in a video. I sure could have went higher than what I did but I'm just so used to work around 9-12k triangles that I aldready felt like I was going completly nuts on the polycount haha, But I know it's not I'm just not used to it yet! Hint: If you really want a texture but run out of bandwidth just open the texture on the site, PrtScn, open photoshop, Ctrl-N, enter, Ctrl-V then crop. Voila! :P
