You should set up Max to use Generic Units, as that's a 1:1 mapping with Unreal units. ZBrush, well ... I've never had success with maintaining scale with ZBrush. It almost invariably exports my meshes as tiny unless I use the GoZ interface. So I guess what I'm saying is install GoZ!…
Yes, you either haven't set the hotkeys for UVing in customize user interface > keyboard tab > group: unwrap UVW The hotkeys you want are called: "Texture vertex move/scale/rotate modes" (in max 2009 they are anyway) And/Or you need to enable hotkey override. Or you clicked that little toggle at the bottom left of the uv…
max to maya is easy maya to max is hard becuase of the quickkey difference. Max can be a horrid pain unless you use switcher. Max or maya to XSI, EASY! Out of max and maya , Max is the most orginized. But, I know all 3 and Softimage XSI whips em all as having the fastest modeling tools and user interface. XSI lets you do a…
physique can be faster for initial weight setup (envelopes). but for the tweaking part it's a pain to work with. or do you mean "faster" as in playback speed? no idea, not much of a noticable difference probably. biped may be limited and has rather crappy curves but i don't think you can beat it for quickly animating a…
Another modo user here! Getting into Low-res workflows after using modo for mostly high-res stuff at our studio. I'd have to say the attraction to modo for me is the customizability of the interface and toolset. No single program has everything you'd ever want, but modo does a great job of rounding up useful tools and…
I use Zbrush, it can handle more polys, the wider array of tools let me do more, I don't have problems with the interface and I just have a reliable and familiar workflow with the thing now. I tried mudbox for a few months when at the time Zbrush2.5 was out and didnt have all the new tools it got by 3.1 but there wasnt…
I.C.E. looks promising. So while people have been waiting for Autodesk to rewrite 3ds max and Maya once, Softimage rewrote XSI twice? Wild! Can't wait to check out the trial. I have to admit though the interface and custom hot keys really threw me off when I tried it last. Thanks man I had no idea it was coming out so soon.
tsk tsk. Well ya know, you get what you pay for. I had a similar problem with XSI|Mod 4.2 when it first came out (registering). Just refused to accept my Half-Life 2 License. That said I can't really stand using XSI for long periods of time. The interface feels far too long-winded. The perils of using Maya too long.
I found a Hitachi sata 80 gig for just under $50.. I read the reviews on it and its pretty darn fast, though just a little loud. (Supposedly native sata interface as well?) So thats ordered. Its a 8 meg, but I can deal with that since thats what I have now. Now.. to my disk recovery... Help me Obi Won Polycount! 23% now...
Agreed. But to clarify a couple of things: Modular simply means that you can assemble a bigger object from smaller, often repeating or exchangeable meshes. Your road bits are still modular, and you wouldn't tile the texure, but repeat/switch your meshes. If you want a basic setup for a freely tiling texture (so not in…
