I've been pointing students to Ctrl+Paint for awhile. It has also helped me shake some rust off and alter methods. Great resource! -

You don't have to limit yourself to just Zbrush. You can also use Mudbox (student is free). There's also Sculptris which is free as well. -

Re: I have access to ZBrush, Photoshop, and Lightwave. Does it matter?
You can get 3DS Max and Maya and any Autodesk program for free with a student email address. You can get Houdini for free also.
