I was referring to his comment that his edges are not chamfered but instead he just added edge loops, which gives him all 90degree edges. Maybe I just misunderstand, or am not clear enough, but to me it appears he will have lots of edge errors when he bakes this, besides the hole in the top he wants to cap -

agreed on the head, it does look too big. is the seam down the middle a hard edge on the mesh? it is most likely caused by a hard edge on the mesh in combination with how it was baked. it almost looks like it could have been baked with soft edges but the normal map is being displayed on mesh with a hard edge there i'm… -

Generally speaking, vertex count is more important in games than triangle count. So if you have a model with 5000 verts and 7000 tris, vs a model with 5000 verts and 5000 tris, the 7000 tris model is actually much more efficient. Triangles are not free, but saving triangles at the cost of verts and these sort of UV layouts… -

Thx guys but no I won't finish (I will! but not for this contest X) nothing crazy with the baking, the main idea is to avoid gradients as much as possible, starting from the smoothing groups. If you don't have any gradients on your smoothing group or any weird triangles, you have more chances to avoid potential artifacts… -

Silhouette is good, and everything is more or less right. The minor inaccuracies don't matter, except for your edging. The control edges on your HP are too tight (narrow). I don't mean just for baking, I mean period. The edges on the actual gun are a lot softer (would be wider spaced in 3d) in most places than your HP has… -
