The visual quality of his little "semi VR" 360 bubble is already achievable in fully VR-walkable environments anyways. Robot Recall, heck, even the default HTC space deck environment look pretty much just like this lobby scene. It's here.
If you need some Ideas for the upcoming ;) HardSurface Bust Tutorial :D just go to Artstation and type in "Mecha" There are some great Robots. I like these a lot: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/6Bdax https://www.artstation.com/artwork/JbxVZ https://www.artstation.com/artwork/DdewO
Thanks Fenyce, the color is actually added after I painted them in black and white. Here is a painting I did today. Girl take dog on a walk upon the moor and encounters a giant robot next to abandoned factory. You know, standard stuff ;)
The gun animations still kinda suck as they did in L4D1. The guns are held awkwardly and move robotically (and are scaled too small in most cases) not based on this trailer of course, as it doesn't show any gun animations, but I'm saying this based on the ingame footage I've seen.
I really dig Qolop's blue underwater lookin chick, interesting design and not a mech/robot suit. the texture is pretty vibrant and the blending of armored plates into organic flesh is organic and subtle. Goldo_O's is pretty interesting too, more so than most of the other pieces.
I think the pose and perspective of the main character is a bit wonky, esp the low angle and how the arms are kind of doing the robot. also with the action lines you have at the moment the main focal point ends up somewhere in the groin area of ur main dude.
the ugly playermodels of hl1 never stopped the game from selling great.. the level tech of l4d didn't either .. guess it's that bit of "great games" what is doing the magic :) look at portal and tell me people are not hungry for robots singing about cakes. tech is not everything.
I had a horrible idea that I'll never use about a robot that is solely powered by puns and bad jokes. It would need a lame sidekick I suppose, and as a concept this would be entirely unwatchable because frankly who wants to watch shitty jokes all day.
thanks Man :D Initially the inspiration was diesel punk and Tor Fricks mech work, but the project has definitely shifted! I have changed my reference to be more like the fallout power armor and that 50s robot design for the clunkyness yet retaining smooth panels.
Here is the latest work on Adam's robot arm. I retopologized all of the metal pieces, and touched up all of the internally-wired parts that seem organic. I think it looks a lot more like a hard-surface model now. What do you think?
