does anyone know how i could make use of all the uv grid without wasting unnecessary amount while keeping the checkers square enough????? everytime i do it always goes rectangular??
You can use the grid to match the concept art, and then drop down some primitives for further improve your match. Some DCC have a camera matching function.
Most engines have a grid snap function though which eliminates the need for "lips". Look into other modular projects around on polycount to gain a understanding of how to plan it.
Yep, came across blurb.com while I was waiting for a responce. The book creation tools seems pretty intuitive. Haven't figured out how to snap to the grid though.
@kwagner, you can create a second camera with an image plane attached and align the concept with the grid. That will make sure that the model fits the concept perfectly http://prntscr.com/i3tu0x
Cap: That's a really, really bad idea in my opinion. You'll have a densely gridded lowpoly without tris then, rather than one with detail in all the right places.
Thnx Yoon, tires took me a while to get right but after drawing it out on a piece of paper with a grid I found a nice solution. Here a closeup with wireframe
