Maya 2012 has "Modify > Replace Objects" that can do this. Not sure exactly in which Maya Version it was introduced tho. -

ANSWERED: Making tile textures?
Good day! Is there any options how to make texture in dDo tile? Maybe even horizontally only? Also texel density works only on 256, 512, 1024 ect. resolution?
