Affordability will be MUCH more important than technical specs, so resolution will be fine. The tracking-speed looks to be fantastic! I want to day-z on a pair of these! -

the second image looks like z fighting, double check in max you dont have overlapping faces. i.e faces right on top of another -

The directions are determined by your model's orientation in world space - if your model is aligned to Y or Z, you'll see a different up direction in your OSNM. :) -

Could this have anything to do with what you have 'up' set as? "Z" vs "Y" I mean. Change your settings and see if that helps. -
