This functionality doesn't seem to work with groups at all. Even if you set the group and all layers inside to replace, the height still doesn't get replaced. Will this work with groups in the future? -

You should actually probably use the Normal blending mode instead as Replace will replace the height on the whole texture and not only where you painted.
