Creasing hard surface.
Hey everyone. Well, I'm coming from an organic modeling background, and I'm working on my hard-surface skills now... I know all the basics, I understand topology and how to handle everything... how to harden a surface by using edges well, etc... But I lack some knowledge in how to "solve" some more advanced creasing… -

SOLVED initial problem (I think) In ZBrush, I completely overlooked "Adaptive Scan Mode" and "Smooth Lores Normals" in Tool>Normal Map. I'm not 100% sure (pending more research) but I think these options might be intended for base meshes originating in zbrush which may not have smoothing groups previously assigned. Helpful… -

1. if you want better specular maps. first thing i recommend is changing the spec map into a colour spec map. normally when light hits a surface, it reflects a higher pitch of the colour of the object, unless there is a gloss coding on the object(like a finished table), then it'll be a white spec. below i gave you an… -

under optimal conditions there should be no seams in mudbox... if there are big faces its hard for mud to find the coresponding area on the other uv shell... really long faces are also bad... if you are painting a higher res version of your mesh you will get less seams... i subdivide my lowres meshes to get a better… -

Correct way of baking normals for UE4
Feeling lost. I've been having trouble trying to bake correct tangent space maps for UE4. My first approach was the traditional one. I use Maya 2014.
