James, thanks man! Truth be told I dont draw nearly enough. like 95% of what I do is painting studies, and it really shows. (my pure drawing skill isn't very good at all.) Recommend 50-50 on both. but for quick concepting, a good foundation in drawing is best.
If your drawing skills "aren't that great" please stay the fuck away from peoples skin with permanent ink. "Hi I'm your tattoo artist, my drawing skills aren't that great so let me draw on your skin with a needle and ink that will last forever" - This is what it would be like.
So which factors should I keep in mind when I'm drawing a particle? I'm only drawing it for concepts, rather than sending it into a game or an engine. Are there any techniques or workflows that I can use to make nice particles? Or do I just use a round brush and draw in the particles?
To back up what was given before, and in relation to your latest works, it made me think of Picasso. Before he became famous for his explorations, he mastered drawing and painting realistic work. That was the grounding he needed, to be able to truly explore the wilder side of perception & representation. Core skills of…
with the caveat that a decal is almost always the most expensive option... What you should do is entirely dependent on context Assuming you add a second material to the mesh, if you have 4 of these things on screen you introduce 4 extra draw calls - which is not very many if you have 100 of these things on screen you…

My name is Alex Zelenski. I was born in 1994. I started drawing seriously around the end of the 2010 school year. I stumbled upon a website called sketchoholic and from then on my dreams and aspirations have molded to become an illustrator and work as a concept artist in the game and film industry. I was recommended by a…
This has confused me for a while: Say I draw 2 cubes in 2-point perspective, and they are rotated (horizontally) at different angles to one other. I draw the first cube by placing VP1 and VP2 anywhere on the horizon line. Then, because the second cube is rotated, I draw its VP1 in a different place on the horizon. How do I…
Here's a step by step I wrote a few months ago. I haven't posted it around, frankly I am a bit ashamed cos I feel I am a hack when it comes to art (never spend too much time with my art fundamentals). But I'm looking for feedback anyway. Thanks in advance. Painting Cassy's Face 1. I didn't define her face too well in the…
limeforce: Thanks! Yeah not much attention yet, but there was some good feedback. Got to be thankful for that and just keep making more regular posts. I work on this every day, so I'm going to try daily updates. Hopefully when I add more storytelling elements to the enviros it will excite people. Jack M. : Sure. The…
