EQ speaks truth. I generally have an hourly wage in mind, then charge them what my time estimate would be. The needs and the tech can fluctuate drastically. Needing to pixel paint with a pencil tool with a 16-bit pallette on a 64x64 texture can be more time consuming than freely polypainting a 1024 texture. No real hard…
HI there, I'm Taylor. The project I was assigned this week was to retopoligize a high poly sculpt and bake out a normal map for it. These were my results: Low Poly: 907 Faces/ 1812 Tris High Poly: 8 200 192 Faces/ 16 400 384 Tris Topology: Low Poly without Normal Map Low Poly with Normal Map
Nice designs everyone have here ! Not sure if this challenge is already over or not, but it's still Nov 16 here xD I've been meaning to join this for a while but had not done so until now :) Thanks for starting this and starting me on painting ^^ The idea for this shield is to use plant parts, so I put some thorns around…
I won't be able to do more testing on the lighting, because of an import, reimport issue that ran into working with the latest update of 4.16.2. I thought of leaving a link here if someone else is experiencing the same issue:…
Unintuitively, the "Startup" folder is evaluated after all other script folders, just after the default scene is loaded. You need to place your global.ms file in a user-defined plugin folder. Please read this article on the script evaluation order.…
I agree, don't use smudge. Yuck that is a crappy way to go about it and develops bad work habits. You can kill those support edgeloops and use more geometry for the roundness of your lowpoly pipe! It looks like it is 16 sides, I would go with 20 or 24 sides. Um.. at least on the outer cylinder to give a rounder edge.
The snap-pivot-to-vert is a good trick :) ShurikenUK: Vig posted a nice little introduction to Maxscript on the front page a while back - http://www.polycount.com/2011/05/16/maxscript-for-newbies/ .. Max's listener can help lots for little scripts. Might also want to check out the Tech-Artist forum. Lots of people with big…
A slightly more comprehensive update list. http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/16/ENU/3ds-Max-Help/files/GUID-AA81EA1A-B4E1-4B47-B3AE-7C4AD62E24FF.htm Xoliul, not sure if this is the type of thing you were looking for. BTW, I think my favorite new feature is the search box. I use it ALL the time in Blender. I hope it searches…
Made some very useful alpha brushes out of 3D fractals exported from Mandelbulb 3D into Zbrush, which I then cleaned up and did a BPR, saving only the 16 bit depth images. These alphas were used with symmetry in both the x and y axises to produce this bit of geometry that I think sort of looks like an alien spaceship.
If you remove the little ridge that you've modeled in at the bottom, you'l be able to increase the number of sides to say 16, still use less polygons and use significantly less verts (hard edges/smoothing splits means a lot of vertex use), get a better bake a nicer looking end result. That ridge is so small that it likely…
