Okay so I have heard this term a few places on polycount especially in regards to floaters. Can someone explain it to me and why its bad lol thanks mucho for the help
YO THIS IS HOTTT you may want to disable shadow casting on the floaters if you can. those shadows are kinda killing the perception that it's a solid piece in the renders.

SimonT those are the decal planes. That is why they are overlaying geometry in place of the stripes. They are decals... Bungie is famous for using floaters like this for the nice crisp text and stripes.
