Cool stuff dude. The other thing to keep in mind while doing spec is not just the spec map, but also the spec power map. You can really punch out your objects with a good spec power map :D I'm really looking forward to seeing what more you come up with ajr2764.
I was gonna say how well Gir & Baj defused the start of an ugly thread derailment... Seriously tho the internet has gotten abit out of hand lately, once it found out trolls had power over Phil Fish, it just kind of forgot where the line was and became power mad. *leaves thread forever*
I think you should scale the tree down , it seems really massive and I don't think such a big tree would be near a power line IN a city. Besides that , once you add leaves and whatnot on the branches , it'll become even more crowded and parts of the power line could be covered up hiding the textures
When I need random sci-fi machinery, I have been known to go into the garage and start stacking power tools on each other. Car engine parts, photos of the insides of old power plants, and similar stuff can get you some very cool shapes and volumes to iterate on, very quickly.
What I am trying to say that this is not clear from UI that Texel Density (pixels/m) must be powers of two. As I understand Texel Density is the scale factor for the image we project to our texture, so it might be any number. In Photoshop I can scale image to any number, not just powers of two.
I want to make game art, but I don't believe that should mean I ignore evidence of offline rendering being more powerful. It's like explaining to someone last gen why the Wii couldn't get PS3/360 games. Nobody was saying the art wasn't good enough. Everyone was saying it wasn't powerful enough.
Not really "letting it slide" but rather intentionally changing shapes to look more powerful. You should certainly strive to be as accurate as possible, but sometimes shapes make the weapon look wimpy and bring the rest of it down. Inaccurate models of real weapons bother me however guns that don't feel at all powerful is…

The thing is, they say the same thing about you. Only when you do it, you think it's fine. It's like what I was trying to say in the "piracy" thread. If you feel it's fine to use government power to benefit yourself in the expense of others, don't be surprised when other people will some day use government power to benefit…
