Digital Artist Management is a recruiting agency that primarily targets the video games industry. We are currently working with a studio located in the Midwest of the U.S. that is in need of a Gamer Writer to create story elements (narrative, characters, settings, dialogue, etc.) for a AAA Xbox 360/PS3 title. This is a…
Hey y'all! Been stalking the forums here for a while and have decided to post my most recent project. Trying to get my portfolio focused on AAA quality art. Critique please! The project is a small Daihatsu truck, modeled in Maya and textured in Substance Painter (Rendered in Iray). Let me know what you guys think!…
I am in the process of applying as a Junior Enviro artist at a local studio here in the UK. They have not advertised a fixed salary for this and if I make to interview I anticipate they are going to ask what my expectations are regarding pay. Are there any Junior 3D Artists out there willing to divulge their salaries with…
Just be warned that it's highly unlikely that is actually fully true. I've got a couple of friends who've been in and out of QA between jobs and it's not uncommon to work crazy hours, (not unlike most dev roles from what I've heard). I'll quote one of said friends FaceBook status from yesterday: 'awesome, 15th day at work…
For every clever innovative indie game there's a dozen that are just as generic as their AAA counterparts that can't get publishers to take risks on them because they've got terrible games and ideas not because they're not mainstream enough. Most indie games won't see the light of day and they'll want you to work on the…
Yes, it would work in a lot of cases and if you constructed your models accordingly. However, if there's no good reason to completely deviate from the standard workflow (quality, performance, workflow speed) don't. The tools are built around and for the standard workflow. It just sounds like the guy doesn't understand the…
I know someone who got his break over 10 years ago using Poser 3D models to get his first gig. At the time, Poser wasn't very well known, and he managed to get a job at a start up company in 2000, and he now currently holds an Art Directors position at a reputable AAA studio. Karma doesn't always work.
Last year I took a "safe bet" over a really great AAA opportunity doing all sorts of stuff right down my alley, mostly because of my concern over contract lengths. I ended up being pretty unsatisfied with my decision in retrospect. So I also agree with the others here, pick what you'd enjoy doing more.
But 40k for a single character somewhat is. Uncharted was ~37k if I recall correctly, and from what I've heard it's a freakishly rare occurrence to have a poly count that high for even the main character. Resident Evil is about 15k, which is fairly reasonable for a AAA game. Also I think the second prize needs to be…
Looking for any input on good replacements for Jira and Confluence. indie to AAA sized studio, Ideally open source solutions. I know there are a lot of alternatives our there, I am not looking for a religious and/or flame war. More specifically what I am looking for is someone who has had prior experience with Jira and…
