put more segments in your cylinder instead of carrying that edge loop out to the perimeter of your cylinder try just wrapping it around the indent -

Just a thought, but model a simple mesh to act as the deformer and use skin wrap..make sure the 'use all verts' (or whatever) option is checked.. -
