Visually speaking, games and CG in general tends to age pretty rapidly and severely. Maybe it's because technology and artist skills improve by leaps and bounds every year. Maybe we'll see less and less of it with time.

There are so many good shows on. I started noticing now that I have kids. Flapjack is fantastic. Fanboy and ChumChum is my new favorite. so great, art and animation (its CG) is so good.
I have no idea if this will help, but you could try Vailias' Maya CG Shader. It looks very useful. Haven't tried it myself, but I will soon enough as I'm having similar problems over here.

nahh , its fine, was a good post. I have cut down a bit of late, might start running/cycling again. Problem is doing CG art/vid games is not the most physical of pursuits. Hi. This will serve as my art dump. I make games on my own... and when i get a chance to break away from logic i try to improve on my CG. Majority of my work will be low poly assets and rendered in game.
Daaamn...spending my currency, I could cobble together a fairly decent Gaming/CG rig for what that Index alone costs in USD! anyway not a VR fan...yet, so I'm giving it a miss this time.
