Seems you input normal maps wrong : in mental ray (3dsmax) arch&design material you should put normal bump map in bump map slot, and set strengh to 1.0 default is 0.3. Thats why your normals dont have effect in renders.
What is wrong with the mac? I am using macbook pro 2013 a lot for maya work. This one has Nvidia 750M gpu and it can handle pretty heavy scene in maya.... I can use substance painter as well but not for large textures. I do my heavy lifting with powerful PC
Normally you would create polygroups for the parts you want to work on separately. I usually make the hands one polygroup. Then when I want to work on the fingers just lasso select a finger with 'x' symmetry on and hide the rest. This is an oldie but a goodie https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=213&v=6AfV2hmSmqo
Outliner 2 works perfectly for me in Max 2014/2015 I do not use the install routines though, i simply copy the script folders over from the old installs. So i do not know if the installer is able to deal correctly with the changed folder structure in Max 2013/2014/2015
Unfortunately, I cannot scale it up and then back down because that requires entering 0.01 into the scaling dialog, which results in me scaling it by 0.0100000015. Is this a rare problem that only happens to certain users working in small units? Should I try just updating from 2013 to 2014 and seeing if it fixes the…
