Maybe try triangulating rather than quadrangulating? You'll have a triangle mesh for your target engine anyway.

Ah yes. That is important. No automask. Stiffness set to 2. I believe I used a poly target of 2.

That might depend on the target engine. In UDK, I know that smaller value = broader highlight, bigger value = tighter.

You can store a morph target, then use the layer brush. This maintains a fixed height even with multiple strokes.

You could save a morph target and then paint out the parts that stretch once you pick it up again...

I've found they don't, they tend to act as though you target welded the middle vert to one of the edge verts.
