could it be (no idea about cs6) that you saved a normal tif file before and now when saving to the same name photoshop automatically tries to save a tif instead of crytiff?
Hey, thanks! I baked it as a TIF from xNormal, which automatically saves as 16bit. Looks like those artifacts are gone now. Is it customary to bake normals to TIF format?
