Generally separate objects will have separate textures. The only real exception to this is if all the objects will always be seen together, then its ok to pack them on the same uvlayout. Like a modular building set or a set of tools that will be seen together or something like that.
What kind of zombie game, limitations and direction are you going? I'm interested in making a more 'modular' terrain or world type. Just like being able to enter buildings, should destroy and modify the terrain depending on what you do to it.
I BOUGHT TODAY! It really IS amazing, no complains... Should be the game of the year! What really amazes me is the TONS of content on this game. Tons of props, animations, modular buildings. Cameras are unique, sound too. Got addicted to it. Very well paid.
My working units are centimeters. Which i guess makes sense that would put my far clip at like 100m which is no good for the modular building set im working on. Haha. Good to know though and thanks again dude!
Done with the modular house parts (for now). Next up: Creating tilable materials and texturing non-tilable parts. The big building shapes will most likely get a higher resolution so they're actually usable for vertex painting in Unreal
I'm working on a project where I have around 100 buildings to texture. They are all your usual UK type houses, so bricks etc. I can get away with a diffuse slapped on with some UV tweakery and photo retouching/clone brushing and leave it at that, but I like the idea of making life harder for myself so I'd like to make the…
Can I ask something, the modular assets stay within 3dsmax and you model whatever you want or do you put them in the engine and build everything there? And do you make holes in the wall for windows or do they float over the walls?
Great work! As someone already pointed out you should flesh out your scenes a little bit more. I'm talking specially about the modular building and staircase ones, which don't really match the level of detail of the other pieces.
What would you consider the standard for wall, ceiling and floor dimensions? Right now my wall is 100cmx200cm and my floor is 100cmx100cm and it seems to be too small. Should I build a bigger wall and keep the small one to fill the gaps?
Good day All, I'm in the middle of remaking an interior aparetment from an old game I've enjoyed playing over the years. I've hit abit of a snag with what techinques to use when i comes to creating a building interior. 1. I'm not sure whether to create all the walls modular or create the walls as one room. I ask the…
