Hi I was wondering what are the benefits of using a 512 x 256, vs 256 x 256 for example. I thought they used the same amount of memory and from what I seen 3d apps prefer the layout to be square. I'm just wondering what are the benefits of using a rectangular texture page. Thanks. Alex
First image is 2772 x 4609 pixels, so the file size is 8.42 MB. 2nd image is 6548 x 3392 pixels, 11.68 MB. If you used a max resolution of 1920, the file sizes would be more manageable. Try downloading the images after you post them, you'll see.
This formula might be useful. Not sure if it's more efficient. max(abs(x-y)*-z+1,0) x being your texture y being your desired b/w value to mask z being the steepness you want the peak to have Just shift around the y value to your desire.
it seems Maya doesnt know where the mel scripts (and the shelf) that belong to the exporter are. They need to be X:\Users\Username\Documents\maya\20XX-x64\prefs\scripts and X:\Users\Username\Documents\maya\20XX-x64\prefs\shelves. You need to restart, so maya can source these scripts on startup.
I just downloaded X-normal (again) and I had a question. Would it be smart of me to take maybe, a 2 divisions version of the above body and use it for the low mesh? It has been a long time since I used x-normal and I am at a bit of a loss on how to proceed with a test.
thanks! Probably forgot to tell you but I also really liked your stuff in renegade x might be the fov or the angle... I tried to position everything in relation to the door height but not a lot of it was done in a measured metric scale soo it's probably my fault :x today! i have layered the materials

Which file is the bad file? They're in the file with X in the name. They're the triple loops around the light/camera things on the front and the front-right chain. edit - the one without the X is the bad file. Hmm. edit: I figured it out. Under the display tab you had set "shapes" to hidden.
Okay! First I want to compliment you again on how good it looks! I wouldn't be writing a critique this if your work wasn't this nice, and I'm looking forward your to next pieces. I've got pretty much only anatomy pointers. I tried to color-code so they're easier to read but the text colors are changing once posted, haha.…
Greetings everyone! I...am having trouble with the ocean shader I am creating, specifically with the waves at this moment. Currently, I am using a sine wave into a 3 vector (Z) into the world position offset. Currently however, it's not displacing the sine wave in the correct direction. The waves are being displaced from…
