I like the idea and the presentation is not bad. The things that stick out the most are the walls and the fire. The walls are very thin, you should google some references for ruins. The transition from the 3d pieces of the walls and the plane that mimics a rock wall is very noticeable. You should make the individual 3d…
Here's a couple things to keep in mind when trying to just use UE4 as a renderer: 1. polycount isnt as important. Keeping it low will help import time, but give it enough so the details cast shadows. 2. Material layers will help keep your resolution high, and give you assets you can reuse across multiple projects (you only…
I think you need to pick a lightsource and stick to it for this kind of diffuse-only painting. Your current lighting is a bit too "global" and flat. Imagine a source lighting the character from roughly above, and it should look ok in most situations. To help you visualise it, try creating a couple of ambient lights, stick…
So I'm working on a remake of Fireman from the original Megaman/Rockman game. Its not quite done yet. Still adding dents and scratches into him as well as refining the specularity pass a bit more. Only using a self-lit diffuse map at the moment. These screenshots are from within maya with no lighting. I also tried to do…

How can rocks be even better-looking in games? It's all about lighting, video games go towards ray tracing nowadays, so rocks can get lit even more nicely. Not forgetting the extra material definition on top of them. Like them being covered with moss, snow, ice or being wet from the rain.
thanks for the encouragement guys! whats_true: thanks man! butt_sahib: i dunno about the hunched position... i think if i go that route it will really take away from his gesture and flatten out the back a little too much... i do need to fatten it up along his lats and obliques though... you are TOTALLY RIGHT about the…

Well its not so much that one passage in particular got me confused... I dont think its written very well for NEWBS, but ... its a complicated prog.. I expect some learning curve. My problem lies in the fact that Im not getting the results I expect when I try things. So thats why my rather general "Help with UVs" thread…
well then it seems you posted this for no reason, it doesn't matter if there was no references or if it was just off the top of your head, you should have the creativity and knowledge to succesfully create something, saying its just a 'test' just lets yourself accept it for being worse than what it should be. If you dont…
