Composition wise, I think your first attempt is close to being fine. It could use some weather fx... it's a viking theme, so lighting, something to do with the hammer of Thor etc etc could be great. I think all you really need to do is continue updating prop by prop until it's fresh and reskinned, so to speak! -

Putting lights in that scene might solve a lot of your problem. Gaslights or something else equally steampunkish/victorian. Also, some of them surfaces that are so empty could use some decoration, or breaking up into large slabs of stone. Maybe a relief with the same motif as the row of statues on top of the collonade?… -

please don't let this become a apple vs. PC thread. who cares what hammer you use as long as you build the house? they are both tools. I love google everything, google earth, google maps, its all great, if it works just as well, hook me up with some google fiber optic internet! -

tf2 custom prop help needed
i'm making a largish prop and need it to have decent colliion, i exported it out wiht a copy of itself for the collision, but when it exports out and gets in game it kinda puts a large shell around it, where i can not walk inside it. any helps? also i need to know a way to make hammer show larger objects without going to… -

hello just a few things for training my baking and texture skills I start with a war hammer the highpoly the lowpoly with occlusion and normal maps the polycount is 2396 tri for now ,maybe is too low for a fps weapon? and texturing ,just color test for now sorry for the crappy capture ,my graphic card sucks its rendering… -

LP done. I tried to keep it fairly detailed, falling a bit over 12k tris so quite happy with it. Not sure if the small bevels in the hammer pieces will be visible at all though... I also did some bake tests with auto UV and I am quite happy with the result so far apart from the artifacts from sloppy UV's. -

I think you get what I mean, are you familiar with valve hammer editor? with that you can texture a surface with a "skybox" material and it shows an infinitely distant skybox through it - that's what I'm aiming for. though I've not yet figured out how to replicate that. unfortunately searching "cubemap skybox" isn't… -

Okay, so UDK it is. I've never used it before though, so it will take a few tutorials to get going in it, but I'm a fast learner. I'm probably going to approach the building in a new way after the last few critiques. I will just keep hammering out stills until you are satisfied! SOOooo Round 2, ready go. -
Re: 3D max shell act really weird
I´d suggest using "Reset Xform" (you can find it in utilities submenu - that little hammer icon above the modifier list) and converting into editable poly. After try using shell modifier and see if it helped. It usually helps when I have such problems - it´s really annoying issue btw., so I feel your pain.
