They fixed it in 3ds Max 2015, if you update you'll be able to use Max on any screen just fine.

So i did some testing. It kinda helped! :) staticlighting level scale in order: 0.1 -> 0.5 -> 15

Don't use translucency. Just plug in 0.5 constant into the transmission and 50% of the light should go through the leaves.
