I did a really similar type of wood stair on the carnival trailer in my portfolio: http://www.alecmoody.com/8/index.html Notice how it reads as dirty and old has almost no micro texture in the sculpt. Wood grain usually only becomes that raised when it is subjected to huge amounts of moisture (think drift wood) and even…
Thanks for the reply FlashL. I understand what you mean, and huge thanks for mocking up that drawing. When I get a chance I'll go back and redo the high poly. I find that when making items, I usually end up rushing through to the completed item, which usually sucks. :) Thanks for your advice man!
I paint rarely, but personally I prefer going the feathering route, usually taking the lighter colour over the darker (rather than the usual other way around) with a wet second brush. I've had difficulty quickly googling any articles about the technique, so I'll see what I can do when I'm not at work.
Indeed I agree. I only have weekends and usually those weekends are stuck doing house work haha I usually get a 1 hr per day at home of something pc related though. but yep might be nice to recreate some of those nodes we know we need and love before diving into a request board.
Last year it ran until around midnight, and the same the year before. Bars close in SF at 2:00am, so last call is usually around 1:00-ish. People usually start getting there at around 6:00pm, so there should be plenty of time to get there and hang out for a bit, or drop in and leave early if you need to.
I think drawing is very good for helping your brain see shapes that your eyes would usually ignore when modeling. Even before I model anything, I usually try and draw my object first, so I can look for major contours that make up the silhouette. It also serves as an exercise for dealing with proportions.
Also I was wondering if it is possible to make Painter output textures in a usual way like Designer and Photoshop. By usual I mean not squishing information between UV islands. Sometimes I want to make a single texture and use it across multiple meshes. Now I use a simple mesh plane for that but I was wondering if it is…
As usual I am in love with your work. That female sculpt is spot on. She oozes femininity, the only minor thing I would have liked to see is a slightly lower hair line. Ridiculously awesome work as usual, saved to my inspiration folder many, many times over ( just so I don't miss her :) )
Blending spec, gloss, and an environment map mask (the latter can usually be tied to the spec map if you'd like, I try not to) will achieve nice metals. I usually go completley loose with the gloss mask and make it look some-what wavy - as if the specular pass was being refracted. From there I just tone the spec and…
There is usually a drop in sales during holidays with a family gathering focus, also there was a lot of sales going on during black friday, cyber monday, so if you were not having a sale people might just have gone for the products that were on sale instead. But overall there is usually a boost in sales during winter,…
