for those who haven't seen it yet, we released episode 11 last week :) http://www.thegamedevcast.com/thegamedevcast-episode-11-post-e3-silence-mattricks-180-and-indie-games-are-chemical/ this week's Indie Game of the Week is called "The Forest", can can be found here: http://survivetheforest.com/
I assumed those dark lines were supposed to be tree shadows from driving through an evil forest, just painted on instead of cast from a light source. Looks pretty sweet to me Duncan, a little dark on my pc but just fine on my iPhone. Calibration, grrrr.
Here was a quick forest test. You could get more randomization/control if u wanted. I just did it really quickly, not doing sub-object selections or multiple passes. All was done in 1 pass setting up some random properties quickly. More Tests for fun :)
ok here is my material/layout planning. ive decided im going to expand the level a little deeper and add a hedge maze after the forest goes on for a bit. It will end at your coffin. Once this is done I plan to make a video of the character swimming up to the island and going through it.
From what I can see there, you need to create a clear path for the player, at the moment the terrain is all blurry. Add vegetation, not just a few trees. The cryengine offers you the possibilty to create vivid forests with unique vegetations, so I suggest that you make use of that feature.
what is the update on this project? i downloaded it from a video on youtube show casing it. curious if there are two different teams remaking it or just one as the forest looks different in the current game im testing. also is there a discord for it? im sure there is but all the links to it ive found are no longer active.…
The Order 1886, Ori and the blind forest, and Guilty Gear Xrd (as mentioned by Snowfly) are all good choices. You might also want to look into CupHead and the new Ratchet & Clank game once they're released. The former is using some very novel approaches to animation, and the later is sharing a lot of assets between the…
I'm going for a full environment. I'm gonna place the church inside a nice and pretty forest that I've already made in unreal with props that I've bought from the marketplace. I'm even planning to animate a camera to showcase the environment. So yeah.. I'm going big on this one. :D :) ) I'll make sure to post updates :)
What's up with that? You still have to finish your evil genius forest base; guess you can have rest for now, but you better get cracking once your hand is healed! Get well soon Adam :) I hope the guys at Relic give you plenty of support. Good luck with your surgery!
Your work is nice, I think, but for the love good art please post these on regular backgrounds and knock the 'keeping it metal' shit off. It's distracting and making it irritating to look at you art work. I feel like I am staring at a bear in a forest through a bunch of leaves when all I want to see is the bear.
