Isn't 1280 x 800 the lower end of HD (at least for youtube) I'm sure if the initial version is 1280 x 800, it'll be fine and have it improve over time.
well when you click on a specific axis it locks that one in memory. so if you click on X then click on the object/vert/edge etc to move it.. it will move only on the X

You could activate "Angle Snap Toggle" and set it to 90° or use a maxscript command rotate $ (angleaxis 10 [1,0,0]) rotates current selection ($) 10° around x axis (1,0,0) ~ (x,y,z)
