What do you mean "baked down"? Vertex colors are not stored in a texture. If you want to bake lighting into vertex color, like ambient occlusion, the Vertex Paint modifier can do this.
Also after using the Editable Poly coloring tools, you can use Vertex Paint if you want to do global adjustments later... like HSV, Levels, layering, etc. 1. Is there a way to pass selections up the stack to the vertex paint modifier? I really need to be able to select rings, loops, open edges etc. Seems like the modifier is extremely limited in this respect unless I'm missing something obvious. Alternatively anyone know of way to do this in maxscript or if any scritps already…
