Hi all. I'm sculpting on a asian male head but I'm at a point where I am stuck in a rut and can't seem to figure out how to further optimize my sculpt, though I know its not quite there yet "if you know what I mean" Also, I try to keeping the facial style from the pictures instead of the painting. "The eyes are different"…
You obviously need a better understanding of anatomy. Check out Andrew Loomis's Drawing the Head and Hands and then just practice a lot. Don't hesitate to pick up a pen and some paper.
Profile proportions are a bit wide from the face to the back of the head. hopefully this can help http://www.apollo13art.com/National/lifedrawing1/lectures/heads.html
forget about the painting/concept for now. go study some anatomy first. you are at a stage where it is too early to provide any specific critique to your model.
http://www.artnatomia.net/uk/artnatomiaIng.html This can be really helpful in figuring out what the muscles in the face attach to and how they operate. It can be kind of hard and confusing to look at just an anatomy drawing of head. But when you can isolate and watch each one move it really does help.
Front view does not look bad, but side view looks very wrong. If you study anatomy you might be able to see what is wrong with it. I think its misleading to say study(study denotes a school of some kind), all you really need to do is look at and understand the forms that you are trying to recreate. Its basically doing what…
So I went back to a earlier stage of my model just to the the forms right. How does they match now? I made the ears and nose smaller and removed the mouth since I just want to focus on the forms.
Thanks Tenchi! MM: To be honest I cant see what there should be wrong with the anatomy? Here is a earlier stage of the model before I started to match it to the pictures.
