Yeah like I said, there are instances where the complexity of the alpha would mean way too much geometry, and in those cases its good to use. Small chains and that sort of thing would be a good example. -

In all serious though, the laser pointer is an excellent touch. Its that extra added bit of interest on what was an otherwise boring, yet well executed concept. Its a great example of how to add a little bit of character to an asset like this, and get past the "Meh boring gun" feel.
