Thanks a lot for your comments. I thought about actually leaving the rings in the low-poly, but it's my understanding that these are simply done with normal-maps? And the seam you mention is supposed to be where the metal ring overlaps, I think. But thanks for the help! Edit: Do you find this version better?
Lol, your ring is not in the right position, no wonder why it looks wrong :P you see the indent on the side of the stock, right in the centre of the image? that's were your sling goes.
doodlin out a hand painted ax at home, working at a leisurely pace. The thing getting cut off at the bottom is an alpha plane for some sort of tassels hanging off of the ring.
This thread fills up so quickly! Here's an update on that astronaut character. Worked on the booots, helmet ring and wristbands. Next step is the head and communications cap. Then gotta make a helmet!
Mainly just problems in the tight corners like where the rings meet the outer frame. I ended up breaking those areas off to do separate renders. Not sure if this is the best approach but it worked for this model.
@visionnaryunlimited: nice colors! Also, I like the way you made the folds with the black line. The next step, if it need one, is to make a paintover with lot of details like belt, rings and for exemple, guns. Of course Im still open to crits and advices.
Mikhga: Don't be afraid to use the extra polys to make the crate look better. Even source engine games back in 05(?) were able to handle the extra geometry. And if the barrel is 360 polys, and the crate is 6, that's 60 times more polys from one to the other, and presumably if they're going in the same engine, it shouldn't…
Jackwhat: Looking forward to seeing that finished, looks like its going to be pimp. Skylebones: Looks Sweet, but for me the floor stands out a bit too much. My eyes keep get drawn to it vs the ring due to the strong contrast in the wood grain. Tea: is that all zbrush? Looks great, was just the style of TV I was considering…
Yes! Loving this one, great silhouette and shapes, and just a great design! This may be cliched, but try adding just a few well placed glowing rings or dots or something. dii: Gorgeous sculpting work man! I wish I had something more constructive to say though. Duncan: That seriously made my day! Great work, and I'm looking…
